I would like to create a doorway between 2 single garages. See the pic.

Can I go ahead and cut an opening, I don't believe the wall is load bearing?

Am I okay to use a piece of timber as a lintel as it won't be load bearing?

Many thanks.

Your biggest issue will be to stabilise the existing wall once you start bashing away at your new opening.

At the moment the wall is a connected bonded mass of block-work albeit lightweight aerated fellas. However, once you have inserted a door and weakened the structure you are going to have a potentially weak wall remaining.

It will be particularly vulnerable because of the dynamics of a door opening and closing or slamming!

I would be inclined to line the opening with a pair of 100mm x 50mm timbers, right up to the ceiling and form a connection with the ceiling truss chords whilst fixing into the blocks and possibly angle bracketed to the floor.

Then stick your frame into the opening formed by the timbers.
