dot and dab?

Good afternoon all, i have a small toilet and all the walls are knackered but sound so could i dot and dab on the walls and stick new boards over without them coming of.
The walls are old lime plaster.

Best to hack off the old plaster and fix to the brickwork/stonework,I don't think lime plaster could take it.Best post on the plastering forum for more info.
