Well I haven’t personally experienced any downsides to it.

Chaos at Dover probably had something to do with - sulking, bitter French on a go-slow causing queues. Still, I suppose it better than them burning our sheep when they’ve got a cob on.

Can i ask again ?
Do you think the recent chaos at Dover had nothing to do with brexit whatsoever?
And is Brexit working well ?

It’s a long game. No shortages on my supermarket shelves unlike your hypothetical one.

They showed that it would make us worse off, looking at about 15 years into the future. This does not mean there won't be growth, but that we would be worse off. That GDP woud be lower because of it.

And yes, I've seen empty shelves. This will likely be a short term issue, (hopefully) but a predictable one.

the biggest problem with brexit is that is was a political project.

politicians didnt care about resolving the very significant trade barriers -so lip service was paid to infrastructure or technology


Dover port and the channel tunnel terminal were built based on the freedom of movement model and it cant simply be reconfigured

Dover ferry port and the tunnel together takes up to 10,000 truck movements a day. Add in a 2 minute delay for 3rd country checks and the port and surrounding road system cant cope


It is inevitable the UK will start to align again with the single market to remove these barriers

Fact is if it wasn't for De Gaulle we would have joined Europe sooner. One old bloke with dated opinions inherited from the Victorian era. An ex Army man.

De Gaulle? He may have been an ex-army man (of the French army though), but didn't he scuttle off to us as soon as he saw the writing was on the wall, just like a little French 'hero'.
And then, after we and the Americans, and others, liberated France, back he came pretending to be the conquering hero.

They have been. The problem is that we aren't in and just like all "countries" they want a boarder just like we do.

The UK want a boarder that consists of nothing. A none boarder and will make all sort of noises to gain support and try and get it. The probem then is all countries have boarders. The EU just happens to be a group of them. Maybe we should chuck ours as well.

Not picking nits, but I certainly want a border, but I don't want any boarders coming here from France.

Not really, obviously Brexit brought about the need for customs declarations but that's no big deal. The Le Touquet agreement means that UK customs officers man the barricades at Calais and French customs man the barricades at Dover.

There are no similar problems in Calais therefore the French customs officers must be w*****s. It really is as simple as that.
