Hi,
I'm going to rip my toilet ceiling down and fit a new ceiling with down lights. I want to do as much of the job myself as possible, for abit of experience and to save abit of money. My toilet is a room with 1 ceiling light and 1 switch. These questions might sound daft but here goes.

1) can some one please post a wiring diagram of how I wire 2 different light fittings from 1 set of wires, I've got a rough idea of how I would do it, but my way is properly the wrong way, I will also need to know what type of wire I will need to use.

2) the light fitting says it needs a 75mm cut out but screw fix only sell 76mm, an extra mm won't make that much a difference will it?

3) it says it's rated IP20, what's
Does this mean?

4) it says power voltage supply is 240v, this means I can connect it to the wires and don't need any transformers or anything?

5) it says it's 30, 60 and 90 mins fire rating, do what does this mean an do I still need the metal box above the fitting?

Thanks
Dan

That'll spoil your new ceiling.

1mm² twin & earth or 3 core flex.

It won't matter but don't let it wobble.

Correct.

It means it will resist the passage of fire for that length of time.
Irrelevant if it is your property above as well.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

EFLImpudence, thanks fit the wiring diagram, I'll have a look at the links in a few mins.

Leeco, as it's just a toilet, no sink, bath or shower I just assumed normal down light would do, am I wrong?

Taylortwocities, I just assumed the existing wire would connect to the new fitting, I don't know what wires are already there as I've not been in the loft and looked, and I don't know what loop in is. I'll look in to then a intended free junction box, and if needed I'll buy one.

Ban all sheds, the room is 5'2 x 2'9, I'm not sure if 2 lights will be to much, but to much light is better then not enough light.

NO. Install what YOU want,as you will have gathered the posters here are of an age that you shave and shi…… in the bathroom and aesthetics are off the mind set. I have a white bathroom lit by led RGB+ white down lights all dimmable via a wall pad works a treat in all respects !

Ours is one tilted over the sink and one tilted over the toilet, no windows. I used 20W bulbs off 12V transformers to give the right temperature.

In the summer it's too little as the room seems dark compared to others. In the winter with 'mood' evening lighting on it's too much of course, but I'm not going to dim based on ambient light!

What wattage should I be looking for with 1 light? I was thinking 2x 4 or 5 watt led down lights.

Thanks
Dan
