Hi all

I have a job tomorrow to fit an expander onto a scantronic alarm. I am aware that the alarm needs to be down powered while I connect the expander into the data terminals of the main panel.

The question is, the alarm is monitored by a Dualcomm so is there any precautions I need to take to ensure everything is working correctly when powered back up? Do I need to down power the Stu separately?

Obviously the alarm will be on test with monitoring centre e.t.c...

If the alarm is monitored to a central station why is the alarm company not fitting the expander unit ?

KWCFC are you an alarm engineer or someone just helping out with this simple job? If you don't know the answer to your question, you should not be doing it.

A DualCom should come back up but a RedCare STU or GSM will need to be "upped" by the ARC. As Europlex says, you should know this if you are working on a communicated system... You, or the customer, could get into trouble if you're not the provider of the A.T.E. - the installer may withdraw the service and/or the client's insurance may be invalidated.

I work for the alarm company, and while I have been involved in servicing for the last 2 years this was my first experience down powering a monitored system. Just wanted to cover all bases. Thanks

Part of your service work would involve working with communicators like dual on and redcare ?If after 2 years you do not know how to down power a system with a communicator if think you should ask your boss to go on some training courses ?
Don't think I would want you to work on my system with the knowledge you have ?

You don't really know the full circumstances or scope of work I or the company does to make a comment like that.

But it went ok and all signals tested before leaving so I'm sure you can sleep at night now.
