Hi,

Can any one explain how to calculate current for 12v down lights?

Five 12v 30w down lights, each light has individual transformer.

Maximum cable size for transformer is 1.5mm according to manufactures

Existing supply to the point is 1.0 mm.

My question is if I installed 5 lights in a loop with individual dc power supply trough 1.0mm cable it would be ok…

Existing cable installed under the floor board and protected with 6A MCB.

In addition with the existing 1.0mm supply if I add two 30w 230v down lights for my hallway + 500w 240v flood light for my garden.

With my calculations for 500W and two 30+30W with the 240V Supply

Current would be: 560/240=2.3A

Can any one explain how to calculate current for dc lights and also taken voltage drop into account is 1.0mm cable suitable for the above loads?

I also try to draw a picture ....

Many Thanks

6AMP fuse takes about 1440 watts for that light circuit before it blows, just make sure the circuit load doesn't exceed it and 1mm cable cable wouldn't be there if it wasn't heavy enough.
as for the low voltage lights they wouldn't make much of a difference to the load.

Are you sure the low voltage downlighters are DC and not 12v AC?
They're probably SELV transformers and not power supplies.

5 x 30w = 150w, add that to your total loading.

[EDIT] Thinking about it, MR16 lamps don't come in 30w.
Have you got a picture of the fitting and lamp (or a link) you're using?
