Drain and new extension

Hi

Am planning an extension but there is a manhole on the boundary line (well half in ours and hald next door!). How close can I builid to this manhole?

If you mean 'how close can you build to the manhole cover' it depends on the size of the manhole. Some are brick built rectangular and some are concrete and round.

Some are quite compact Upvc models. The concrete ones can sometimes be quite a bit bigger than the cover so check that out first. Other than that it's a case of how close can you practically build a wall next to it and the foundations will have to be below the depth of the drain and have a concrete lintel over the drain if the drain runs through the wall.
