Hi I had a washing machine delivered today it was connected by the company I bought it from. Can anyone tell me if the grey drainage hose should be looped around like that?

After the machine has finished the pipe is still full of water. I'm worried it'll start smelling if it can't drain correctly.

As above, no it shouldn’t be like that. It will create a place for water to gather and become stagnant, which will start to smell.

Hoses are available with elbows on both ends but they tend to be expensive. The valve could be replaced with an elbow washing machine valve, this would be my preference. A bit more could be notched out of the shelf, although you don't have much material supporting the back of the shelf now.

Get a compression elbow and a bit of pipe and rejig the valve so it points down. Then feed the hose up through the base of the unit so it's not strained. Deburr the hole through the unit base.
