Hi,

Tmrw I am going to drain off our central heating loop to put in an additional radiator.
We have an Ideal Isar Combi boiler and I have a couple of qustions

- Dumb Question:- the pressure is currently at 1,3 bar and if I drain it until the water stops i.e bar 0 can I safely assume there is no water left? I am going to cut the suppy and return pipes directly in the room above the boiler so I think the answer is yes.

- Once the Bar is at 0. Is there anything I should do with the combi bolier i.e simply turn it off? I am thinking not as the heating is currently turned off so it should be any reason for the pump to be pushing the water around.

thanks

Adam

Assuming that could get you very wet.

You need to drain the radiators outs from a low level draincock.

Turn it off.

You could rip it off the wall and fit a decent boiler, or flag this site in your favorites as it will be handy pretty soon.

Hi,

thx

I am putting the new rad in the bedroom upstairs ( first one in the loop from the boiler) I should only need to drain the other rads upstairts right?

Adam

p.s yes I heard about the reputation of Ideal but it was fitted to the house before we moved in :(

If you drain half the system them half the system is full of air locks when you try to refill it.

Ok you may be lucky and get it all out eventually.

I will drain all the rads then. Only talking 5 in total. Thanks for help

isolate the electrics before you start.
When you cut into pipes make sure you have something to catch some water - even if you've done a full drain down chances are there is some water left in the pipe you cut.

Make sure the boiler is completely off, and get not be turned on by somebody else.
The system needs to be empty if you want to avoid surprises
