I need to drill a few small holes in my artex ceiling to move my router and satellite feed to another room.

I know the risk are small but I want to avoid any unnecessary exposure - any advice on how to minimise the risk would be appreciated.

I have heard that drilling into shaving foam is an option - worth a try?

Get it tested by a professional, it's not that expensive, is fairly quick and will give you peace of mind and you will know if it has asbestos or not.

With artex or other texture coated ceilings, you cannot tell by just looking and it is a win-win IMO - if the test is positive for asbestos you know about it (and all that means) and if it is negative you can work more safely with that knowledge. Otherwise when you want to do other work in the future, you'll be guessing. It is always better to know.

This guide to artex ceilings might be of use to you too.

Yes, do a test. Relative is selling a house. buyer's surveyor said "might have asbestos artex". £30 and 3 days later, we all knew it wasn't.
