What kind of a drill do I need to drill into stone.?
I have seen a cordless drill do this but it cost around a thousand euro.

Can I do these jobs with a cheaper tool and can it be battery operated or are the mains ones more powerful?

You can get a corded SDS for <£100. Your 1000euro must be gold plated!!

I have a McAlister from B+Q which has soft start and variable speed. It will drill most masonry: I haven't been beaten yet. Just checked and they are currently £70

If you want really really cheap though go for an old school tap and turn Rawldrill if you can find one. (Just kidding!)

what size hole, what type of stone ? (embeded in concrete could mean anything, have you got a picture)

Are the corded drills a lot better than the battery ones(and cheaper)?

The stone walls of the house and chimney stacks seem to have pebbles in them and I might want to drill holes in them to fix a mounting for a satellite dish.
We also have an old stone wall that I might want to hang a gate from.I can see in the past someone has drilled a large hole in what are large hard stones that make up the wall.
Anything that would make any impression in those stones would be useful to have.

need some photos, if its small hard stones in a lime mortar then drills often get deflected off the stone and holes don't go where you want them to go
