I want to fit a blind to some porcelain tiles. I have a drill bit for the tiles but can anyone give any tips regarding whether raw plugs are needed etc

When fixing anything to tiles i always drill the hole a little deeper than needed, insert the fixing plug, then the screw by 1 turn, then carefully tap the screw head so the head of the rawlplug dissapears through the tile.
If you leave the head of the plug flush with the tile, then screw in the screw, you risk cracking the tile due to the plug expanding.

Not if you use the right size screw, plug and drill bit.Been tiling for three years (as a living) and always end up fitting towel rails, soap dishes toilet roll holders etc and never cracked one yet ;)

Oh and don't use the fixings in the pack they are never up to the job cheap rubbish!

I am a plumber and I,ve just had a job with porcelaine tiles fitted.I bought several special drill bits to drill screw holes from B & Q,costing about £4 each. What I found was that I could drill one hole with no problem whatsoever, but that was it.I did use water to cool the bits down.In the end I reckon I spent about £60 on drill bits.
I don't really mind spending the money,I just wonder if I was doing something wrong, these bits were specifically for drilling porcelaine. In future I will add another £100 on to bathroom jobs just to cover myself.

Jonplum, the thing with porcelain tiles is to keep the drill speed low. The best drills for the job are carbide tipped. You can get a 16pc set for about 40-50 quid. And they don't go knacked after 1 or 2 holes.....

Ive just been tiling my bathroom using porcelain tiles . I bought a cheap set of drills on ebay - paid just over a tenner , and managed to complete the job with no problems - drilling about 20 holes in total .

Think its just a matter of keeping the drill bits cool . I used a cutting paste on them which definately helps -.

Hope this helps - dont think anyone likes spending a fortune on a job they might only do once :)
