My main stopcock for the water supply into my house is dripping. It is under the kitchen sink, but I think to replace it would mean ripping out the fitted cupboards as it is not easy to get to, so I really want to avoid that. Is there some suitable safe stuff I can apply round the tap barrel where it is leaking that will stop the drip, but obviously not too difficult to remove should I ever need to turn the supply off?

Never ceases to amaze me the number of properties i visit and the stop cock is all but impossible to reach let alone fix!

Try what kevplumb has suggested or turn off in street and if possible replace the tap spindle inards......

How much room do you want to do a gland nut up.

I've even done it one handed before now.
