Hi All, This is my first post so please be gentle. We have just bought our first house and the drive has some much weed growing that now it doesn't even look like a drive.
Strong non-selective weed killer so it kills the grass as well & get the strongest you can. It costs me around £10 a time but I have a very large paved driveway & an 8 car, shingle parking area but treating twice a year keeps it down; but keep it well away from your plants & follow the instructions carefully.
sodium chlorate..
mix it strong and water it on just after it rains ( so the weeds are taking in water )
available from all good DIY outlets and gardening centers.
"Pathclear" kills weeds and prevents seeds germinating for half a year or so (most weedkillers are not persistent. Sodium Chlorate is effective but is water-soluble and can spread into adjacent lawns, flowerbeds etc after rain).
However, you may as well cut away the weeds first or use a cheaper weedkiller once, to save wasting Pathclear in large quantities (you have to wet the leaves as well as applying enough to wet the soil where seeds grow) If you disturb the surface, e.g. by hoing or pulling out dead weeds, you disturb the surface and break the protective layer. I think I would use Glyphosate this year, then, when you have cleaned it up, use Pathclear each spring it future to keep it clean.
