Driving Without PAS fluid

My power steering system has developed a pinhole leak in a steel pipe, so the reservoir empties in a couple of minutes. I have to get to work this week and the garage cant look at it for a week. Is it going to damage the engine in some way of I just carry on with heavy steering? Its a Freelander 2, diesel.

No. It’s dangerous and you’ll **** the pump up.

As Mot man says, stwering will be very heavy and pump won't last long at all.

can you place a piece of thick rubber over the hole, and then clamp it with a circlip.

You could be dealing with anything between 100 and 1000 psi on the high pressure side......time for a new pipe, but it is possible to fix them by brazing if you can get it off and cleaned.
