I see they do sleeve in many sizes.

2mm 3 4 6 etc

My previous stock is on the small side. 2mm ?

What size should I purchase for say 6mm cable ? And 2.5mm

The sleeving (presumably) is measured by diameter rather than cross section area. So 2mm internal diameter will do for cores up to 3.14 square mm cross section area- which will cover you on the CPC up to 6mm T & E (might be a bit baggy on 1mm T & E but hey.....)

Yeah I have used 2mm in 6mm before. Fine for short lengths but can be time consuming on long runs in CU.

I just wondered what electricans actually stock on the van.

I would say 3mm is the standard one people use.

Anything smaller is a struggle IMO.

Anything much bigger can waste valuable wiring space, except when used on larger cables.

Have you seen this fabulous product from Toolstation:
It might be fabulous for those who use exactly 3 times as much G/Y as blue and brown. Separate reels would also fit more easily in a toolbox!

Kind Regards, John

There are a few countries where the Earth conductor in "Twin and Earth" (etc.) TPS cables is already "insulated/sheathed", to the same standard as the Line and Neutral conductors - so "sleeving" of the Earth is unnecessary.
(The conductors (greater than 1 mm CSA] in TPS cables in these countries are also stranded, making their use much easier.)

Strange it is that more countries do not follow this practice, which is achieved in the countries concerned at a very small additional cost for the cable but which saves time when these cables are installed!

What colour live conductors are used in their TPS cable?

Not a fan of brown sleeve. It only falls off when you most need it.
Tape or heat shrink for me.

Its annoying that 3mm earth sleeve is the most common available, its miles too big for 1mm lighting circuits.

I take it America still messes about with bare earth wires, as their YouTube videos suggest?

WELL, you can't please everyone - obviously the individual must choose what she or he wants to buy and use...........................

Maybe not exactly 3x, but people do use more G/Y than the other colours. With sockets, for example, that is the only colour used, and when using both G/Y & brown in light switches only short pieces of brown are used.

It has its attractions - despite the price/m it costs less than buying 3 individual items, and it has them all on a reel rather than flopping about in ripped plastic bags.

Indeed. In fact, I imagine that most people (certainly myself) use a lot more than 3x as much G/Y as brown and blue; I personally buy G/Y in large amounts, but the other colours in much smaller amounts.
