Hope someone can help.

Looking to sand the hallway next week and was considering hiring the edging sander rather than the traditional, larger, floor sander. Will it do the job? Reason for using the edging sander is that the area isn't very large.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it will sand the floor and remove the top surface but you will have to use a lot of fine paper to remove the swirl marks it will leave then spend hours with an orbital or belt sander, following the grain to get it ready for oil/varnish etc.

It might look ok on the eye before the varnish is applied but the minute you varnish every tiny mark will show through

Hss Hire usually do an offer for hiring both machines!!

Many Thanks. Will look into the cost of hiring both. Hallway isn't very large (2.5m v 6m) - something like that possible in one day or would I really need it for the whole day?

Cheers

Look at whats on offer from HSS you may be better hiring one of the upright orbital action sanders,if the boards are very uneven, the edge sander with a coarse paper will make short work of flattening them,it's an aggressive little beast. Then use the bigger machine to finish, with finer papers.
