Try the Forte diesel treatment next time....in the bad old days when the MOT required you to rev the nuts off the engine, you could see the emissions coming down as you watched 
I've actually filled the fuel filter neat with this stuff to get a pass, but that was the horrible Ford Endura diesel with the two timing belts.....a dog of a motor if ever there was one
