Looking for a bit of advice. Can i lay this stuff direct onto a sub floor consisting of floor boards and if i can is there anything else i need to do i.e polythene barrier below etc.

If you use an underlayment - any underlayment - over existing floorboards, DON'T use a DPM barrier.
So in your case you can use the Elastilon straight over the boards - depending of course of the direction of the new boards and the levelness of the existing boards.
