I have just bought a flat in edinburgh. the toilet was in one cupboard and the shower in another. so moved bathroom to boxroom. Unfortunately that is where the electric meter has been living. So called up scottish power as they are my provider for a quote to move it roughly three metres through the wall into the cupboard next door. They sent out sub contractors, IQA i think. They quoted £1200. Speaking with a couple of friends of mine who are electricians they reckoned for material and time that it should be a fraction of that price, £200 both of them said. Just wanted to ask if anyone knew if i had another option. Can anyone else do it that i could also get a quote from, as i feel as if im getting made a fool of.

Many thanks
Jamie M

This work can only be performed by the DNO, but they are unlikely to do it themselves, and instead subcontract it out to another firm.

If you find your DNO on this map, you may be able to contact them directly and try to obtain a quote for the work. I wouldn't expect it to be much cheaper, though - the price you mention seems fairly average for a meter move.

Thanks mate, i will give it a try. Just thought it was a lot of money for very little work. Thanks again.
Jamie.

It would be a lot of faffing about to fit it around an existing meter and cutout though....
