Hi,ok this is an unusual request for information.

Wifey has asked if its possible to install a single electric oven in our garage as a temporary help during family gatherings.
The oven would be purchased new and fitted in a housing unit,
First question is it allowed (safety reasons).
Second, can a single fan assist oven be simply wired via a 3 pin plug into the ring main.
Third,would it need extra ventilation.

And finally any thoughts or other reasons that need considering.

Many thanks. James.

Considering you can instal an internal combustion engine that emits all sorts of toxic fumes via a petrol or diesel burning device in a garage, what possible legal problems do you expect from a domestic oven

I bought an old in-built fan oven as a paint baking device and fitted it up with a PID temperature controller. Now swimbo has taken it over for cake baking as it's far superior to the modern conventional domestic rubbish sold for kitchen use.

No one is ever going to recommend an oven in a garage.

During a fuel crisis people were storing petrol in their kitchens with deadly consequences, so be very, very aware.

A single oven below 3 kW can be added to a socket circuit - and a 13 amp plug is fine as a temporary set up.

As long as the oven housing allows for ventilation top & bottom, the housing is fixed down and the oven screwed into the housing, I can't see any issues.

If it becomes a more permanent feature (ie gets more than occasional use), I might think about connecting it to a circuit that is not already heavily loaded (as the GF ring final circuit usually is).

If the garage is detached and susceptible to damp, that may be a problem.
