Electrical backboxes into wood?

Is it acceptable to place electrical backboxes into wood? I wasn't sure if this would present a fire hazard or if it meets regulations.

I have 6m of windows along one side of the kitchen and the vertical timber supports are the only place I can realistically place sockets/FCUs.

No problem at all with mounting backboxes onto wood.
