electrical work costs

Hello to all. Can anyone tell me how much approximately I can expect to pay for
the work consisting of supplying and fitting a new consumer unit (fuse box) and replacing an expired smoke detector? The 1 bed flat is in Essex.

Get a few quotes in.
Swapping fuse box price can be different depending on where you live and what's involved.
I would think somewhere from £600 to £800 for that lot, but I'm guessing based on the last fusebox I was involved in was £400 in a empty bungalow that also has a few extra sockets fitted.
Prices are up since then hence. Prices up by maybe 40%.

If this is a rental bear in mind you’ll need an EIC for the consumer unit installation, probably an EICR and a part p compliance.

Regarding the smoke alarm, battery or mains? And is the only 1 in the property. Avoid cheap rubbish and specify Aico is my advice

Thank you we had the EICR test done all ready £174 but his quote for the work above was 1300 pounds and we thought it was rather high whihc is why i am querying this. AI says it's fine to get a different trader for the work but another electrician we approached queried why we were changing trader for the actual work? As I said the cost was high -we want to keep our son safe in the flat but we are on a pension so need to shop around.
