Hello

I smelt burning from a wall light last night so switched it off and removed the fuse that links to it. I called my electrician today but he is away and I'm off on holiday myself tomorrow but have a cat and someone will be coming to my house to feed it so I need the lights switched back on. I have removed the light and the wires are badly burnt. They are now dangling from the wall. Before I get the electrician in to fix the problem what should I do with the dangling wires? Should I wrap insulating tape around them for the next week? Should I place them into a terminal block temporarily. Any advice would be welcome.

you should have posted on the electric forum ,to get more responses, but anyway , can you post picture ? at least you should isolate the circuit at the fuseboard or consumer unit for now.

I've removed the light and there are just 2 wires in their sleeve and an earth wire coming down from the wall now. But thanks for taking the time to post

as the conductors insulation has been damaged ,and to what extent I don't know ,I strongly recommend disconnecting the circuit by removing the fuse or turning off the circuit breaker .and leave off until you can get an electrician in.

Thanks very much for your advice. There is quite a bit of damage though I've knocked a bit of plaster off the wall and further along the wall the insulation is fine. But I'll take out the fuse for the lights and set up some lamps until I can get the electrician.
