dont ask and i'll post when i've failed or completed my secret mission  .

first question where can i buy online electronic components (relays and 15mm solenoid valves)??

thanks

Try CPC

Or RS components

We have most bits in stock too.

Tony

PS I hope you know what you are doing!

you might guess what i'm doin but i'll probably kill mmyself before its complete    !!

i'm already stuck on the type of relay or relays needed to switch a live supply off when another live supply becomes present!.

i think ill join an electronics forum and phone me mate :D

Single pole changeover with 230 VAC coil ?

Tony

i think i'll give up now, but Agile wont be able to resist answering my questions because he loves it, dont you!

I changed a cylinder once where dhw was gravity and couldn't get it to work on gravity whatever I did, so I stuck a pump (a good condition pinky from a job) on the return from the cylinder (the main pump is also on the return). I used two relays so that the pumps didn't turn each other on. Hay presto, fantastic hot water performance full control of heating and hot water. Neither circuit causes back flow through the other.

I just must have been lucky.

Bought a big safe waterproof plastic box from Willy Wilsons to house my heath robinson relay bit.

I feel ashamed I couldn't find a way to use thermionic valves in it actually.

Relay out of a Netaheat Mk1

g'wan - give us all a laugh and an entry for the Darwin awards

you will laugh.... but not yet :D

its something that was mentioned in college today, just trying something out

ps.. i've been playing around with an APS relay - its so much fun :|

Raden that customer today went for the hrpc part, he was loaded and in a hurry.

When I've fitted it tomorrow I'll send you his old pcb so you can serve my obligation to deal ecologically with waste and recondtion it, so that it will save the planet from yet another whole new pcb being made all over again just as bad as the first one.

is Raden an electronics wiz as well? - intresting :D

over and out

When you eventually finish your apprenticeship and can be responsible for fixing boilers then you can consider if you want to fit cheaper repaired PCBs.

Raden repairs them at CET Ltd.

Tony

i think i read a thread on here about recon PCB's - I'll check it out.

Agile - can you please have a look at my digi manometer thread before i commit to buy the TESTO one. - cheers

Yes, but he's a sarcastic b'stard too

When you say APS relay, do you mean microswitch ?

Honestly, If you can get the relay out of a netaheat Mk1, that should do what you requireotherwise it's Maplin, CPC, RS or some other supplier. YOu want a changeover relay with a 230/240v coil, costs £2-3,

Also look at Farnell (connected with CPC) , RSWWW, Maplin, and Rapid Online, who may be the cheapest.

Relays and solenoids are nothing to do with electronics, I would say.

A quiz for anyone interested :

A CH sytem requires a bypass, but there's nowhere to put one. It has 2 2 port valves, standard S plan, nothing unusual.
SO, using a simple, cheap reliable system, make something which can be connected, such that the HW valve is open when the boiler is keeping the pump on, in overrun, (ie when there's no call for heat.)

Otherwise the system must operate normally.

It's easy with 3 relays on a din rail, can you do it better?
I would say anything electronic, though trivial to design conventionally, would be far too complex to make, for a one-off. For a start you need a circuit board.
