Can anyone give me any guidance where EM is required.

A building (open to the public) that I have just looked at had some in some rooms and corridors but not in others?

Should it be in all rooms, or only rooms that have public access, or only where req to light a path to get out eg. if the light from the corridor em gave off enough light into a small room so you could see to get out then you wouldn't need one in the small room.

Is this the kind of info that's in the BS5839 Pt6?

Thanks
Luke

is this a DIY question, or are you a trainee electrician or something?

Hi

Am an electrician, but don't recall anything about EM locations in the regs.

Sorry if it is a stupid question

EM locations are laid down in the building regs most likely..

it will all have been worked out at the planning stage and agreed beforehand..

they also appear in "The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997"
and "The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996"
they have their own BS number too... BS5266

BS5266 is the one you need to consult - part 1 is a code of practice for emergency lighting of premises.
There are 10 parts iirc
I'll have to read up on it myself too as I will be updating the emergengy lighting in a theatre shortly.
