Emptying unvented cylinder

Hi, can anyone help me understand how to empty the cylinder in the picture. Reason is so i can replace the immersion heater. The issue i have is that the cold water input drain is above the immersion heater level. Does the pipe, inside the cylinder, drop down lower the line of the immersion heater? or am i missing something? The other drain is for the heating system, which i dont want to drain. There isn't any other drains around the back or on the front, from what i can see.

That's a strange one, usually the feed and ergo the drain would always be below the lowest serviceable attachment.

Only thing you could do is drain it down and if possible disconnect, if not then cut the cold feed and then insert a tube and syphon/wet vac out the water till below the level of the element, then redo the connection.

I know, i dont understand it. Turns a simple job into a nightmare. Thats why i wondered whether the pipe goes in beyond the connection and drops down, assuming you would then have to syphon the water. I cant find an exploded diagram of the cylinder....i found a picture of a similar cylinder and this shows an internal silver pipe that drops down....its not super clear to see

The internal silver pipe would allow complete draining of the cylinder.

Yes thats the cold inlet, but on my cylinder its not level with the immersion. Thank you for the reply though. Having looked around i assume that it will have a similar silver pipe to drain the tank fully, so long as i keep the hose i attach to the drain, lower than the cylinder.

Yup - if it has an internal dip tube then it should self syphon to the bottom of that. Wouldn't have thought they would have made such a poor quality design faux pas, so it couldn't be drained all the way.
