years ago it was common practice to use rubber insulated 2C cable fo wiring. we have now moved on to T&E. think in the future someone will discover something with T&E which makes it just as bad as rubber and we'll be using some other type of cable?

Are you thinking of discovering something wrong with T+E?
im not complaining, just things change so what seems normal now (using T&E) migh not be in 10 years and we could be using something else

T & E has been around since the 50's....why should it disappear now?

I can just picture the windscreen now...one of them stickers on top with Andrew on one side and a nice roll of twin and earth on the other...

OK, I'll rise to the bait. I predict that reduced diameter bare earths will one day be depracated, and fully sleeved green yellow, with the same diameeter as the live core will be the mimimum accepted. 8)
Nothng wrong with PVC though, if run cool, and in the dark. I suspect most of the wiring put in since the mid 1970s will be there until the building is demolished, or until the use of electricity is discontinued due to a shortage of suitable fuels, if the cable itself is not damaged. :D

They might find a nice thermosetting/thermoplastic hybrid insulator which would improve the top end temperature that the cable can take, without the migration that PVC is susceptable to.

I predict that the Government will discover that in almost all cases of electrocution, the fatal electrical current was carried to the victim by copper-cored T&E, and in an attempt to make us safer in our homes will ban any electrical system in domestic premeses which includes conductors...

So that will be the end of T&E!

Cheers,

Howard
