I have just fitted an energy saving lightbulb, It flashes every five seconds or so when the light switch is off.

There is no detectable voltage when I check it with an amp meter.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance

change lamp, this has been mentioned before on this forum, there were ots of opinions, but no direct answer

semothing is allowing a tiny current to trickle to the lamp

this slowly charges the stricke cuircuit

the lamp strikes but there is no significant power to maintain it

with the power off and the lighswitch off do a resistance check between the permanent and swtiched live terminals in the fittting

if a mulitmeter finds there is any sort of connection at all you need to investigate

plateswich locators have been known to do this (it is possible to wire them so they don't but it involves replaceing the switch drop with 3 and earth)
