Engineering wood floor in top of wooden floor

Hi guys,

I have an old wooden floor covered with carpet. Want to replace the carpet with the engineered wooden floor.

Once I remove the carpet, what do I need to lay on top of the old wooden planks. Only underlay or anything else?

Are you gluing or floating the wood . Is it plank or herringbone ?
