I live in London.
2 trips to tourists areas don't give you the exact picture of what London has become.
Try residential areas on the outskirt of London and be afraid, very afraid.
Favelas are safer.

My Mrs' auntie lives in Hayes, and she has an uncle who is a London cabby lives with his girlfriend near Wembley somewhere. They like living in London and we like visiting.
My Mrs family all came from London so we go up most years.

My Mrs family all came from London so we go up most years.

I've not been to London for donkeys years now. Having been born there and much of my youth spent visiting relatives there and later years working occasionally there I've always had a love/hate relationship with the place. About 20 years ago we'd go in once a month, do Covent Garden and Chinatown for some grub, the Mrs started to find it a bit 'edgy' toward the end and the trips tailed off.
Whilst I dread to think what it's like now, I'm constantly thinking about a city break there, maybe 3 days, visit the old haunts. My family were in Victoria, Chelsea and Battersea where I was born.
Battersea was rough as rats when I was young but from what I gather it's become quite gentrified now, Wandsworth even more so.
It struck me when I used to work in St Johns Wood that no matter how nice the area, you were never more than 3 or 4 streets away from a rough area.
