Ever wondered what it looks like when a full-size electric bus catches fire?

thats why you dont muck about with li-ion tool batteries as they run away dangerously if shorted or overheated
 
It's truly terrifying how quickly the thermal runaway occured.
Although it looks as if the bus had already broken down and was empty; I wouldn't want to imagine what may have happened, if the bus was travelling at speed with passengers aboard at the time.

I suspect if one of those bags went up, the consequences may be similar!
 
It would be interesting to know what safety features are designed in to EVs to allow sufficient time for driver and passengers to get out following a catastrophic battery failure. Taking the OPs incident as an example, I wonder how long it was (inside the cabin) between the point of battery failure and the point after which no one would have been able to get out.
