Hi,
My house was extended in the 1980s. The kitchen/boiler is upstairs and I have determined that the gas pipe comes in from the meter through a downstairs concrete floor and then up though a false wall.

I think i read that gas pipes can no longer be run in walls - is that right? And if i changed my boiler now, will I have to change all the piping to meet the new regulations?

Thanks,
Inigo

The regulations may not be that new but in the last 10 years or so...!

What do you mean by a false wall?
Gas pipe can be installed behind plasterboard - is it's 'dot and dab', the gas pipe should be wrapped with tape then enclosed with the 'dab' adhesive. If it's nailed to battens, then there should be a battens either side of the pipe all along it's length. If the false wall means there's an enclosed space that could fill up with gas if there was a leak, then I would say it needs re-routing.

Does the pipe in question go through the wall, or is the pipe running horizontally or vertically between the plasterboard?

If you mean the main gas supply is routed underneath the extension.

Then you could ring National Grid and ask for a safety check, an engineer would be out within 4 hours to give the safety check.

Dont be gettin mixed up with pipe cannot be run in a cavity , because they never have been allowed false walls have different rules

Ah thanks - I might be getting mixed up with pipes in cavity.

What I have is gas pipes running from below concrete up behind plasterboard then under floorboards upstairs.

I heard gas boards must err heavily on the side of caution and will cut gas until the remedy meets best practice...so i am wary!
