We're putting in a new kitchen, and we want to move the cooker. The current cooker switch (with single socket) is about 1m diagonally away from the connection plate box, that has the ignition for the hob and the cooker wired currently wired into.

I want to move the cooker (Beko QBSE223SX, 16A 2.4kW unit). However the cable would be too short (to the connection plate), so I am wondering what my options are? The cable would need to be an extra 1.5m - 2m.

Is a 30A junction box and 1.5 -2m of suitable cable the answer ,or is there a more complex solution?

Hi!

I’ve no idea if anyone will see this and be able to reply given the post is 19 years old.

I’m trying to do the exact same thing with a new cooker I’ve bought.

Would fitting the junction box apply if the wires on the new cooker or smaller than the existing cooker cable I’m going to join together using the junction box?

I have attached pictures two – many thanks in advance!

Pic 2 - old cooker with existing wire
