Extending ring main

Well, if it's in the middle, it won't make any difference how many you have. More important near the ends.
Indeed - and the silly thing about those who say that one should not connect more than one spur to the same point on a ring seem quite happy (even near the end of the ring) to have spurs connected to two or three sockets just an inch or two apart on the ring.

The only real issue relates to the physical practicalities of getting more than three conductors into a terminal of a socket (or JB), but 4 x 2.5mm² is usually quite achievable.

Sparkwright been trying to understand this one in my head.

Is the attached what you meant?

So basically the ‘ring in’ and the cable currently going to the socket gets crimped and the ‘ring out’ and the new cable being ran to the socket gets crimped, both going into the back of socket 1?

Does that stop this becoming a figure of 8? Is there any issue given I think socket 1 is first or second out of the CU, that part wasn’t just for illustrative purposes!

Cheers
Re your drawing in this reply;

At socket 1 where you have four cables:-
Connect Cable 1 and Cable 1 together using 3 30amp connector blocks in the box.
Connect Cable 2 and Cable 2 directly to the socket.
