Hi,

I'm hoping to get a single story rear extension but concerned about design ideas due to the first floor bay window that would be in the way of the extension roof.
I've seen a couple of photos online where it looks like the extension roof is built around the bay window. Just wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas or experience with this.

Ideally we would want the extension roof to be as high as possible to increase ceiling heigh in the extension. Happy to go down Planning permission as suppose to PD.

Thanks

Your bay is probably supported off cantilevered floor joists, so if you wanted the ceiling higher than the underside of the bay then your existing bay would need to be supported off the new roof structure. You'll probably find once you open up the bay it all needs replacing anyway, new insulation etc.

That would also make the floor above a bit weird, with a step up into the bay. Or maybe you just infill it and have a very deep window cill, use the remaining void for some inbuilt shelves or cupboards.
