Extension Wall looks odd

We're buying a house with a 2nd story extension above the garage.

The wall of the extension protrudes above the roof which is odd as other properties in the road have had a similar extension without the wall protruding above the roof line.

Does anyone have any idea why the wall has been made higher than the roof line?

if the roof was finished any differently it would hang over the neighbours.. not unusual.

Parrapet wall, Can cause issues if not sealed correctly , had frequent leaks caused by mine until it was removed.

I,m guessing its a cock up in the fist place and that was a solution, I dough't think anyone would build like that on purpose.

Won't win any design awards but ,as others say, it will most likely have been built as a parapet wall to avoid the eaves and gutter overhanging the boundary.
