false ceiling

take the plasterboard down.

fit any lighting electrics.

fix the plastic cladding directly to the ceiling joists.

Sorry, should have explained properley,
there is currently a curve going down from the ceiling to the wall which I am going to get rid of by lowering the ceiling approx 4 inches.
Its a plastic cladding ceiling i am putting in, which can be nailed or stuck with no nails.
The electrician has already told us we need to get the framework put ion then he will come, sort the electrics out etc before we put the ceiling in.

as Bahco has said, but i would use some vertical struts, connecting the false ceiling to existing, at centre span, to stiffen up the new ceiling.
