slogger - sorry to hear about your kid being attacked by an idiot with a knife - ie a coward. What a wop! I was also bullied at school until I hit 14 and thought never again - one of the guys tried to push me around and after sorting him out I never had a problem afterwards. I found kickboxing helped with my self confidence etc

Bright - In my experiences, people that train in martial arts are generally less likely to resort to violence - they seem to understand how it can go wrong. Good luck to your son.

Markie - it was self defence - honest.

and people with even basic intelligence don't ask stupid questions in a technical forum just to wind people up.

There are two kinds of people in this forum, those that add value and those that don't and are a pain in arse, as you don't add value....

Sorry about that - it had slipped down to p2 or 3 and I'd not noticed that I'd not read it.

I have not seen a thread where I could call BAN abusive.
OK I have not read all his postings just most over say the last 12 months.
But OK he may be sometimes curt and matter of fact sometimes but surely not abusive.
OK I`m older than a lot of you (50) and come from an era where elders spoke down to youngers - I was actually labelled a rebel because I didn`t allow that pursee.
It seems nowadays that in a PC world we are in nobody should disagree with anybody for fear of offending.
WEll Boldillocks - there`s a real world out there with nasties all around, it`s a competitive world and electrics takes no prisoners.
We had a head of Engineering at college, bit of a straightlace and stickler, who gave a lad a reeling of "industrial Language" when he did something potentially dangerous.
Unfortunately just as college bigwigs walked in on lesson.
PC correct (What they got a degree in advanced pottery or something)
Oh no musn`t upset lad.
Took course off him.
That bloke lets Call him Derek Meg for want of a nom de plume, carred passionately about the lads and gave them all a very valuable lesson in life. The lad who received the verballs and everyoned else in earshot learned a valueable lesson that day, potentially would save lives in years to come. The bigwigs need roasting over the coals.
Back to BAN,
He might well be of the same ilk perhaps.
Yes he might be a tad short.
He is well informed.
He gets you thinking and that is the crux even if he gets your back up now and then.
I`m certain that He does a lot of good and not much(if any) harm.
There`s another bloke on another site forum (Not called BAS so it cannot possibly be him) that winds up some proffesional electricians (actually they do in reallity, most of `em , wind themselves up. In a similar way.)
BAN might actually care enough to put people straight, but I bet He`d never admit this is the reason.

I've been pretty abusive some times on the General Chat forum, towards people who I firmly believed deserved to receive abuse...

Yes he might be a tad short.
Oh without doubt, but often, I think, I come across as more "short" in print here than I would appear if saying the exact same thing in "real life", but as ever, the loss of all expressive clues like, body language, tone of voice etc does have a negative effect.

And at times I don't try hard enough to mitigate that, but the underlying messages I transmit would be the same whatever.

BAN might actually care enough to put people straight, but I bet He`d never admit this is the reason.
Why not? I do care - nothing wrong with that, is there? Sometimes I care more about the other people that a poster may affect by what he's doing than the poster himself, and that often does not go down well...

ebee - understand what you saying - don't agree anything should be sugar coated but when a post has been done as a light hearted joke there is no need to get "clever" about it.

pensdown - I won't even bother!

Its nice to see some people have a sense of humour!

You just don't get it do you.

THIS FORUM IS NOT A PLACE FOR LIGHT HEARTED JOKES. TAKE YOUR LIGHT HEARTED JOKES ELSEWHERE!

All I can say is that I have done the same thing, and seen the error of my ways.

It is best left for the general chat.

I hear you secure - still don't see why there has to be an uproar about it? Oh well s"£$ happens
