GRC - Sorry, don't follow this - if you cut the pipe with a hacksaw, the self-tapper pops out...? How does the groove left by a pipe cutter help...?

GRC - Re; "Gotcha" - I thought from the above you were referring to the self-tapper plug shooting out - but you meant the ice plug - so once you'd explained - 'Gotcha'. Nothing sinister.

so, I'm guessing there is less likelyhood that the ice plug will shift if you are working on low pressure gravity circuits rather than mains pressure?
