Hi, we had a new kitchen installed a few years ago and the electrician converted a double socket to a standard plug socket on one side and an FCU on the other. I had reason to inspect this today and the set up is that the mains wiring goes into the plug side and additional live and neutral are run to the FCU side. But no earth has been run to the terminal on the FCU. Is this correct? If it is, I'm guessing that one earth is sufficient for both as they are both in a double metal socket box. But I thought I better check.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Thanks, I thought so. If I remove the fuse for now, will that make it safe?

That’s a pretty rubbish installation by a so called spark
Oh you youngsters... it wasn't that many years ago it was so very common to earth the backbox and rely on the screws to the accessory. It's probably a hangover from the days of all steel conduit where earth wires were essentially not existant as far as the accessory.

Even today, that's not an uncommon way of earthing the faceplate of a metal accessory.

However, I must say that I've never heard of that being used a me means of supplying an earth to a socket or FCU (hence to whatever is plugged in or 'connected'). Are you saying that that was also 'common'?
