FGM

I think there was a prosecution in the UK, first of it's kind? Remember reading about it some while ago. Changing the law will help those kids in the UK eventually..
What would they be prosecuted for , assault, rape/sexual assault ? Would they go on the sex offenders list ? If they want to do it in their country of origin if they live there, fair enough, but not here or taken from here to have it done and brought back. It is barbaric (to some of us), but some of our habits may seem bizarre or barbaric to some foreigners. Why are our morals any better than others ?

They would be prosecuted under the FGM act 2003

It's also an offence to send a daughter abroad to have it done.

Morals? FHM agonising and causes at worst death at best lifelong pain and many medical problems. So if you want to say our morals are better as we make illegal to inflict pain on others against their will. Then yes, our morals are better.

It is barbaric.
We've learned throughout the ages that things are no longer acceptable. It's not about our morals being any better (which they are on this), it's about learning otherwise there's a ton of things we'd still do that aren't good.

And.. it's the law in the UK. If you live in a country, you live by their laws. The NHS also picks up the tab of surgery to try and help those kids who are in pain, regardless of where it was done.

My wife had to do a course a few weeks back, I did it too to help her do the test.

Teachers have a mandatory reporting duty if they suspect a child may have been subjected to FGM.

Can't help feeling sorry for teachers. When I was at school, worst they had to be on the lookout for was nits. Fast forward 4 decades and they have to be alert to girl pupils having their giblets hacked about, and keep a watch in case any have been radicalised.

Still, that's progress I suppose!
