Hi i dont have kids and I think your missing what is happening. No one is expecting any trouble this is a numbers game. The most amount of scumbags anyone counted in anyone area in London was 200 in croydon where the worst of the trouble is. reports from enfield and tottenham are of 50-100 people. When you have over a 1000 very handy looking fellas hanging about, the idiots are too scared to show there faces. I know and have absolutely no doubt that a minority of those people in Enfield tonight will be quite happy to smash a few heads in(trust me i sit in Park Lane end and even I watch what i say) but the majority are there just as a show of community support. This is more like a protest than anything else.
Also they are not just protecting pubs and shops, although many do seem to be heavily protecting their locals
but these shops all have properties above them. I don't know if you've ever been to north london but you'll find flats/maisonettes above almost every shop, and flats and houses backing on to them. A fire in one shop could leave several people homeless very quickly. Its not just about protection its about people showing they are fed up and not prepared to stand by and watch.
As for the game it is so far still on, and the way things are going tonight will hopefully remain that way.
