When a screw hole becomes too large for a new screw I heard about a technique which allows you to reuse it using wood and glue. When the guy at college showed me I think he shaved off bits on a smaller bit of wood with a narrower end at the end then snapped off. Maybe a piece of dowel? not sure. I guess my effort on the pictures isn't right?

Maybe a piece of dowel?
Drill 12mm hole where the old hole was
Cut piece of 12mm dowel slightly longer than the depth of the hole
Apply wood glue to the hole, tap dowel in with a mallet
Wipe away excess glue, leave a few hours for it to dry
Sand end of dowel flush with surface
Drill new hole to proper size.

Interesting. When a chippy showed me this technique he used a long thin bit of wood like a dowel and cut the end down to taper the first bit that you push in with the glue on it.
