Filling gap around bath

Hi

I need to seal around my bath before I tile. Says on this site that you can use twists of soaked newspaper to fill big gaps between wall and bath before using sealant. Should I wait until the paper is completely dry before I seal or is it ok when it is damp? Don't want to encourage mould.

How big is the gap?

About 8mm in some places.

On a gap that size I would use gripfill,push it down low in the gap,then once its set silicone over it,the tile as normal.
