hi, I have sanded many floors before but have never been asked to fill gaps between boards. Customer reckons papier mache (sp) will do the trick, what do you think ?

That is certainly what was used and can be stained once dry to match in, however if you are sanding the floor and the gaps are not to great make your own filler from the sawdust and pva. Make it up before the final sand and let it go off and then sand it down. It will match in well as its the same wood!

Another good tip is to use cork where the gap is too big for sawdust mixed with glue. I have used this to great effect between floor boards and also parquay(not sure if this is correct spelling!) flooring.

All depends on what kind of floorboards.
T&G?
Direct on joist with ventilation space underneath?

If the latter, in the end all your efforts will end up in this space ;))

If T&G and/or parquet on concrete/sheet underfloor the sanddust with Mix&Fill (or PVAC glue) will work the best.
