Filling in open stairs

We have a straight open staircase and want to fill them in (put risers in) and put in an under-stairs cupboard. Any advise for filling in stair gratefully received!

screw ply to the back of the treads and then screw a block into the tread above and pin the riser to it to stop it flapping about
