Fire alarm courses

Bit of advice would be much appreciated

I'm currently a fully qualified electrician , approved contractor with niceic etc


I want to start installing fire alarms conventional and addressable , I have installed many conventional systems but not addressable, done a couple of minor courses

The question is is the a body you can go with like the niceic etc?

Is there a good advanced course I can go on?

Any information would be much appreciated

BAFE is the approval body for the fire protection industry, with the FIA units probably the best way to gain recognised training in the field. If you're not a member of the FIA, you're looking at over £1K to complete all of the units. In terms of addressable fire systems, manufacturers run their own in house training courses, typically over a day or two, giving you panel specific knowledge. It's probably best to stick with one manufacturer for this reason, as it keeps things much simpler in the long run.

There's a lot more to it than people may think, especially the advanced system design side of things. I think after Grenfell, people will be putting a bigger emphasis on the "competency" side of things, the FIA modules will get you a good bit of the way there.

Do the "NICEIC" not provide accreditation for fire alarm installations? I thought they did on some level.
