I've got a 1/2 hour fire door which was salvaged from a school and didn't have a lock fitted.

I'm fitting a mortise (escape type) lock to it.

Is there a standard hight where the reinforced block is usually situated?

I've actually drilled it out partially, and I'm obviously slightly lower than the block, or at the very bottom of it.

Probably going to fill it with some glued timber and start again. Unless anyone's got a better suggestion.

Door handles are generally fitted mid-way up the door. So on a 1982mm high door i usually fix the handles 1m up from the floor.

This is an accepted norm and is within the lock block parameters.

I'm not sure whether all firedoors have a lock block. There was no evidence of a lock block on the last Hoyden's effort i fitted.
