Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows, if the fire service physically check/make us check the emergency lighting works (e.g isolate the mains in front of the safety inspector to visually check they are working?) or is it just the log books for testing? Thank you

Also, if the emergency lights are working just the charge (green led) indicator is out/not working but the battery makes the light comes on is that okay or do we need to get them replaced just to have the green lights working as well?

In our offices.
Green light means it charging.
Turn lights off at switch. They are now all off in the room.
Then you should have a testing switch with a key to turn off power on the wall, so now count the emergency lights that come on.
If you have 3 emergency lights then you should see 3.
This is done every month..

We also have to test every year that the emergency lights stay on for 3 hours.
Normally have a company come in at do that over the weekend..

This is compliance.
Google.....
Compliance with emergency lighting regulations

Oh.

Maybe you have to look in electrical cupboard for key power off switches Vs in rooms. I have one site like that.

And you have to test water once a month for temperature

Yes, although not all emergency lights are currently working (9 in fault condition e.g. not staying on for over 1 hr never mind 3 hrs!) and (9+ power has been isolated to them)Im just wondering the ones that ARE working on 2 twin spots the green charge lights have STOPPED working but in power cut the lights ARE working so do i need to get them replaced JUST TO have the GREEN lights working as well???? Thanks for getting back to me! Also, if the fire service come to do a buisness fire safety check, will they check the emergency lighting whilst on site or just the records to see if we test them?

There are generally daily, monthly and annual checks required - each to different degrees.

The fire service does not check or make you check. The duty is imposed by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, but how the duty is implemented can vary.

The green indicator is intended to be a visual cue that the fitting is charging and is in a "ready" state. It is not necessarily a fault or a requirement to have the green lights working, as the requirement is for the fitting to be working and to work in an emergency situation. Having the green light working is not a guarantee that the fitting will work in an emergency - testing is intended to check that
